Show Kitchen adds global flavour to Abu Dhabi International Book Fair’s 25th Anniversary edition

Abu Dhabi, UAE 7 April, 2015: This year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) will not only serve up some ‘food for thought’ but also some tasty treats as the event once again hosts a Show Kitchen alongside the more literary pursuits.

The 25th Anniversary event, organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), will take place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 7th to 13th May and will once again have live cooking demonstrations by internationally renowned chefs on the menu.

The Show Kitchen will offer demonstrations and delicacies from around the world, giving the expected throngs of visitors the chance to sample the delights of such kitchen talents as chef Wan, ‘Culinary Ambassador’ of Tourism Malaysia, Manal Al Alem ‘The queen of Arabian Kitchen’, Swedish star KC Wallberg and Indian food expert Vandana Jain.

Every day, chefs from different corners of the globe will share their country’s traditional dishes and recipes, as well as home cooking tips with expert nutritionists discussing healthy food.

Well known for his extensive knowledge of Malaysian cuisine, Chef Wan has also been invited to perform demonstrations and conduct talks in China, Germany, UK, Canada, Spain, Australia and Europe. Chef Wan has had the honour of being the first celebrity to be bestowed the title of ‘Datuk’ by King Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

Manal Al Alem participated in number of international festivals as well as being an arbiter in many international cook programmes and competitions. She also presents variety of TV cook shows like ‘Teslam Edek’, ‘Ramadan Karim and Kafif’, ‘Asrar Manal’ and ‘Manal Al Alem Kitchen’ on Abu Dhabi TV.

Similarly renowned for his role as an ambassador for Swedish food worldwide, KC Wallberg has a long list of credits which includes several awards, international assignments and a succession of cookbooks and will no doubt thrill the crowds with traditional food from his homeland.

Vandana hails from northern India but lives in Dubai, where she has become an expert in all kinds of vegetarian dishes from around the world. Her debut cookbook ‘Vandana’s Veggie Creations’ was awarded ‘Best Indian Cuisine Book of the World’ and ‘Best Vegetarian Book in UAE’ by the Gourmand World Cook Book Awards.

But that is not all that is on the menu at the ADIBF, with Icelandic nutrition expert Ebba Gudmindsdottir in attendance to discuss her bestseller ‘What should I feed my baby?’, which offers simple, delicious and nutritious recipes for babies and children.

Two more kitchen experts will also add more flavour to the event; Chef Mohamed Orfali a Syrian chef from Aleppo who brings with him 18 years of experience, and who issued his first cookbook ‘Ana Halabi’ in 2012, focusing on the food and history of Aleppo’s cuisine and chef Khaldoon, a Lebanese chef, who brings with him expertise in Lebanese cuisine as well as Arabic cooking.

The cooking demonstrations will take place at the dedicated Show Kitchen area at ADNEC.

The region’s fastest growing book fair, ADIBF attracted 1,125 publishing houses last year with more than 100 authors participating in its seminars and discussions. Almost 250,000 people visited ADIBF 2014 and sales grew to AED 35 million.
