Student visitors to benefit from AED5 Million ‘Backpack’ initiative At 26th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair
Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., 20 April 2016: Student visitors to the 26th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) will receive a backpack containing essential publications as part of its initiatives to encourage reading and boost the fair’s role as an international platform to strengthen cultural dialogue in the community, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has announced.
The new National Library initiative will ensure students will have access to the most important new books and publications to promote a culture of knowledge in the community and provide an opportunity for school and university students to acquire the most important knowledge and science sources.
The book bag initiative builds on previous National Library programmes which have distributed coupons to the value of AED 5 million to schools and universities, and is designed to directly benefit and encourage reading aimed at the younger generation of students.
“We seek to enhance our youth’s access to books, encourage more of them to gain knowledge, strengthen their scientific awareness and make reading a daily activity and the books have been carefully chosen to attract students of all ages and encourage them to read. We aim to build educated reading generations capable of shaping the future and to elevate their minds by strengthening their awareness of the works by the most prominent authors, poets, writers and philosophers,” said Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director of Library Management at TCA Abu Dhabi.
“This initiative complements our goal to spread and enhance a culture of reading in our community. It also represents our ongoing quest to promote a culture of reading and providing books across Abu Dhabi. The ‘Backpacks’ will sustain the intellectual development of Abu Dhabi’s people,” added Al Ali.
The 26th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, from 27 April to 3 May 2016 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
ADIBF will highlight its Personality of the Year, the Arabic-Islamic philosopher Ibn Rushd, through a dedicated pavilion.
Italy, the exhibition’s guest of honour, will also be celebrated through an integrated programme that consists of cultural and professional events and kids’ activities. Italy will also feature in the Cooking Corner and the Artists Corner and shed the light on the Emirati – Italian cultural dialogue.
