Qasr Al Muwaiji hosts the Cultural Programme alongside the “Poetry Nights: The Sung Word” during the Al Ain Book Festival. This historic fort, once the childhood home of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is a striking symbol of Al Ain’s heritage and leadership. Visitors can admire its elegant architecture while attending cultural sessions and poetry evenings, immersing themselves in the literary and artistic traditions.
For more than 100 years, Qasr Al Muwaiji has played a major role in the history of the UAE. It represents a fine example of early 20th century mudbrick architecture.
It was built in the time of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Zayed the First (r. 1855-1909) and his son, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan. Later it became the home and administrative base for the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the UAE, when in 1946 he became the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Ain Region.
For the first time, Majalis Abu Dhabi - Al Ain City, hosts a series of cultural sessions in collaboration with the Al Ain Book Festival. The programme provides a platform to explore Emirati heritage, youth empowerment, and key social issues. It also includes sessions led by senior community members, who share their rich life experiences with younger generations, fostering intergenerational dialogue, reinforcing positive values, and contributing to the development of a cohesive and engaged community.
The Majalis were initiated to further consolidate the national identity of the United Arab Emirates, encourage community participation, foster social cohesion, raise awareness and develop a sense of patriotism.
