ADIBF is the beating heart of the publishing industry in the Middle East and North Africa. Every year, literary professionals from around the world pour into twelve state-of-the-art exhibition halls, and Abu Dhabi becomes the centre of the global marketplace for rights negotiations, licensing deals and more.
ADIBF is also a huge annual literary celebration, drawing over 150,000 visitors. Book lovers, tech enthusiasts and other curious members of the public come to enjoy dynamic sessions with world-renowned speakers, tech demonstrations, showstopping performances and more.
ADIBF was first launched in 1981 as the Islamic Book Fair, by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE. Though the Fair’s name has changed, ADIBF’s aim remains the same: to encourage reading and cultural exchange throughout the region, and to transform Abu Dhabi into a major centre of the publishing world.
Over nearly forty years, ADIBF has become a driving force behind the development of the regional publishing industry. The Fair has gained a global reputation as a vital date in the industry calendar, creating a major hub for business and a perfect platform to showcase the very latest in digital and printed content.
ADIBF is organised by Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center in the Department of Culture and Tourism. The Center is proud to be responsible for conserving and promoting the heritage and culture of Abu Dhabi. It supports the creation of intellectual, literary and artistic events, which form a crucial part of the emirate’s rich cultural environment.
As well as developing the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair and the region’s publishing industry, the Department invests in protecting archaeological and historical sites, and developing world-class museums and galleries, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The Department is also excited to be developing the UAE’s capital as a world-leading sustainable destination and is working closely with its wide-ranging stakeholder base to host a vast array of exciting activities and projects, which attract visitors and investors from across the globe.
